| | .: Government | | | | | |  | City government is divided into seven departments: Administration; Streets; Police; Fire; Cemetery; Planning; and Parks and Recreation. These departments are administered by the Mayor of Logansport. A seven member City Council acts as the legislative body that passes ordinances and resolutions. Upon review of a preliminary budget prepared by the Mayor and department heads, the council is also responsible for setting the city’s fiscal budget. City Council members are elected and serve a four-year term. A Clerk-Treasurer is also elected. The Mayor makes appointments to a number of boards and commissions. These include the Utility Service Board; the Parks and Recreation Board; the Plan Commission; the Board of Zoning Appeals; the Economic Development Commission; the Housing Authority; the Aviation Board; the Storm Water Management Board, and the Historic Board of Review. The Logansport Police Department has 44 sworn officers and ten civilians. All officers are trained at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The department is divided into specialized units, including Detective and Juvenile Sections. The Logansport Fire Department successfully maintains a highly desirable Class 5 fire rating for the community, assuring lower insurance costs for business, industrial and residential properties. The department has 43 full time fire fighters who operate from three strategically located fire stations. County government is administered by a three member Board of Commissioners. A seven-member County Council is responsible for all financial appropriations. Other elected county officials are Auditor, Treasurer, Clerk, Recorder, Circuit Court Judge, Superior Court Judge, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Assessor, and Surveyor. Several state and federal agencies also have offices in Logansport.
